The story behind Sallu-Katrina Coffee shop fight

Finally, it is out. The reason behind things going bad between Salman Khan and his gorgeous beauty Katrina Kaif at the coffee shop recently was an item number. Apparently, Sallu wanted Katrina to do an item number for his friend Prabhu Deva's film, which stars him as the hero. However, Kat was not keen considering her position in the industry now but then Sallu was insisting that, she must do it and even gave her an ultimatum. Things went wrong with the usually cool Katrina speaking loudly. However, it is now heard that she has given in to Salman's wish and is likely to do an item song, but then it is always better to get the confirmation before taking it for granted.

Madonna confirms new album's name

Madonna's final album for Warner Bros will be named Hard Candy and is to be released in Europe on 28 April, then in North America the following day.
Madonna has sold about 200m records and CDs on Warner Bros

It will be the star's first album since Confessions on a Dance Floor came out in 2005, and will be preceded by a single entitled Four Minutes.

Madonna is leaving Warner Bros, the record label on which she has been for the past 26 years.
She has signed a 10-year recording deal with concert promoter Live Nation.

The contract is considered ground-breaking because it is an "all-in-one" agreement which gives Live Nation rights to all her music-related projects, from albums and DVDs to tours and films.
She was the first major star to reach such a deal.

In December it was strongly rumoured that Madonna's new album would be called Licorice.
But the suggestion was dismissed at the time by Warner Bros, which also denied the April release date.

A Madonna fan site - Drowned Madonna - had also claimed the singer used a room decked out in a candy theme to play tracks to record company staff in New York.

Shah Rukh Khan

The year is 1991. First-time director Hema Malini looks anxious on the sets of her directorial debut, 'Dil Aashna Hai'. The cause of her anxiety triggers laughter as it is discovered that the lady, despite employing all haircut methods on her boyish-looking hero Shahrukh Khan, remains unsuccessful with his unruly mop. Hema finally lets go of the boy and his effervescent hair without a crop.

The film bungled at the box office. Was it due to Khan's boisterous hair?

Today, in retrospect, it looks like it was his disheveled hair, big nose, average height and average looks that broke conventions to give birth to a new-age star.

SRK's USP were his energy, fizz and 'dreamz unlimited'. The boy just refuses to sit idle. Says Juhi co-star and friend: ''Shahrukh went on even when others stopped due to exhaustion. He breathes films. He is down-to-earth, without an attitude. He is very friendly and has a funny sense of humor''.

When Colonel Kapoor signed SRK for his serial on faujis, he knew the potential of the bubbly youth but the amazing career he would charter wasn't probably envisaged.

After Fauji, a couple of more television serials and Shahrukh joined the big league and gave a smashing hit Deewana with the late Divya Bharati. As compared to the superstars of yesteryears, Shahrukh's ride up the ladder was tougher. He had to face the rage of explosion of information and technology while working towards super-stardom. He was required to possess charisma compelling enough to make people rise above the zillion modes of entertainment and be his audience. Shahrukh managed to captivate and the feat, by no means, was easy.

From a boy-next-door to a saleable hero, from a hero to a star, a superstar and finally a phenomenon, though there is nothing concrete to show where his prowess lay. He was plain and ordinary. It is very difficult to place fingers on a reason that enabled SRK reach where he is today. Probably his plainness was his virtue. He was never an enigma. He was guileless, without a benefactor to lead him around by his fingers. His only weapon was his willingness to work hard and professionalism.

An upfront attitude earned SRK some very valuable friends in an industry otherwise dominated by detractors and chamchas. Juhi, his co-star, close pal and now his business partner for 'Dreamz Unlimited' forms an integral part of the core group, that has Aziz Mirza, whom SRK is very close to, Yash Johar, Yash Chopra and their sons Karan and Aditya.

In a profession where commitment towards wives and girlfriends take the backburner, SRK's devotion towards wife Gauri has been lauded. He is probably one of the rare actors who in their entire careers did not have any romantic liaisons. One who remained a buddy to men and women alike.

From a fauji to being SRK, the rise was epic. But a downward slide is inevitable. Even SRK knows that. Hence we see a production company already working full swing. But the loss of stardom hurts. The cola war bears ample evidence of that. Contrary to popular belief, SRK is not jealous. He has achieved far too much to envy the rise of new kids. He is apprehensive of a besiege.

The maiden venture of SRK's production company bombed. He was barely recovering from the disaster with hopes pinned on his next release 'Josh', when the film too failed to draw the kind of attention it was expected to. There's however, still time to the downward slide. SRK has too many good projects to keep him going strong. There's 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum', 'Mohabbatein', 'Devdaas', and his own production 'Ashoka, The Great'.

For every loss there is a new hope. SRK is too full of zest to be defeated and live quietly. He will explore other avenues in films even if he ceases to be a superstar. He will continue to be there.

Gulzar to film Tagore's works

Eminent poet and filmmaker Gulzar, who has earlier filmed Premchand's writings, is now busy filming Rabindranath Tagore's works and says this would attract more readers to the works of literary greats.

"I am trying to complete 15 hours of filming of Tagore's works. He is a great author and with him there is another advantage of poems that is very rare. The initiative would expose their different aspects to viewers and readers outside Bengal," said Gulzar in an interview.

The writer was recently in the capital to launch his book 'Two Tales Of My Times'. The book, published by Rupa & Co., has two stories - 'New Delhi Times' and 'Maachis' - both of which have already been made into feature films. So why a book now?

"You can't see a picture again and again. But one can revisit a book any time. And to prevent it from becoming a film album I have deliberately refrained from using pictures in the book. I want to keep its seriousness intact," he said.

Asked if Internet and cable television had affected the reading habits of youngsters, the author said: "Today there are a number of channels, Internet and what not. The youth can't be forcibly fed but there is readership.

"The medium of study has changed and we have to provide what youngsters want to read. That is why I had done 15 hours of filming of Munshi Premchand's two very famous works - 'Godan' and 'Nirmala'. It was aimed at attracting readers to their works, after they watch the film.

And where does he get unique metaphors for his poetry?

"Sensibility can't be bought from a medical store! With time one has to sharpen it on one's own," Gulzar quipped.

"I haven't sat down and coined the terms. People react differently to varied incidences; the way I write is exactly how I react to a particular situation.

"For instance, to describe a sunset if one borrows expressions from some books, it becomes clichéd. If you express it yourself genuinely without verifying it from somewhere else you will find it original," he explained.

Commenting on the commercialisation of lyrics in Bollywood songs, he said: "Well, if it is for a commercial medium it has to be commercial. However, one must write without making the songs' aesthetics cheap. And it depends on an individual ... after all, one person is different from another".

The poet is also writing lyrics for director Subhash Ghai's 'Main Yuvraj'. "There were two reasons for picking up the film - A.R. Rahman and Subhash Ghai. You can say I have to live up to their expectations."

Amitabh lauds Hrithik's trance dance in 'Jodhaa Akbar'

The compliments haven't stopped pouring in for Hrithik Roshan since 'Jodhaa Akbar' hit the theatres. The latest addition to the list of people who have praised him is Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan.

On seeing Hrithik's enchanting trance dance during the qawwalli 'Khwaja mere khwaja' the Big B observed that not since Stanley Kubrick's legendary sci-fi '2001: A Space Odyssey' in 1968 had there been such an apocalyptic moment in a film.

"That compliment just blew my mind," Hrithik told us. "Doing 'Jodhaa Akbar' wasn't easy for me. That dance in a trance was especially difficult. When Ashutosh Gowariker explained the situation, I just didn't know how to go about it.

"In that moment of spiritual ecstasy what does my character experience? I was completely puzzled. Then I was told that it was moment when Akbar connects with divinity.

"I joined the singers to dance with one hand pointing towards heaven, which was receiving the divine gift, while my other hand pointed to the ground, which meant I was connecting the gift received from divinity to people down below. I was the medium, the recipient of divine communication," he said.

Hrithik is paired with Aishwarya Rai in this historical romance that focuses on the relationship between Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Akbar and his wife Jodha Bai.
